WASHINGTON — It’s a relatively quiet, rainy Friday in Washington, with a forecast of periodic heavy rain and high wind gusts sure to inspire those who can to stay home.

Others, however, aren’t so lucky. Among them, the president, who will be venturing out this evening for a “donors’ retreat” at the Salamander DC Hotel on Maryland Ave. SW.

The Democratic National Committee reception with top donors is President Biden’s first high-profile fundraising event since his announcement earlier this week that he’s running for reelection.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are also scheduled to attend the event.

Before that, Biden will present the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to the Air Force Falcons.

The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy is awarded to each season’s winner of the American college football series among the teams of the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

This is the first time since 2016 that the Air Force team has claimed the honor.

On Capitol Hill

There is a paucity of hearings on the Hill today, all of them in the House. They include:

An Armed Services Committee hearing on Department of the Navy’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget; an Appropriations Committee oversight hearing on “Tribal Perspectives on Housing and Transportation”; a Commerce subcommittee hearing on antimicrobial resistance; and a Financial Services subcommittee hearing on National Flood Insurance Program reauthorization.

Across First Street NE, the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court will meet in private conference to discuss cases and vote on petitions for review.

Federal Reserve

The eyes of the banking and financial services industries will be on the Federal Reserve this morning as it releases its review of the supervision and regulation of the failed Silicon Valley Bank.

SVB was closed on March 10 by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation after the bank was unable to pay back customers who withdrew their deposits.

The review, which was led by Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr, is set to be released shortly before noon.

That’s Entertainment

On an entirely different note, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler begin their first-ever tour together tonight at Constitution Hall, located at 1776 D St NW.

“The Restless Leg Tour,” is scheduled to visit four cities. The other stops are Chicago, Illinois, Boston, Massachusetts, and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Fey and Poehler will be performing at Constitution Hall through Sunday.
