WASHINGTON — The headquarters of the Republican National Committee was briefly locked down Wednesday morning after a suspicious package containing vials of blood was delivered to the address.

The package was reportedly addressed to former President Donald Trump.

U.S. Capitol Police later confirmed that two vials of blood were in the package.

As the investigation unfolded on the 300 block of First Street, SE, police cordoned off the street at the E and D Street intersections.

Scores of onlookers, including school and youth organization tours, stopped to take in the scene, before moving on and heading toward the Capitol.

The lockdown was lifted after the package was cleared by the Hazardous Incident Response Division.

The Capitol Police said the investigation into who sent the package and the facts behind its contents is ongoing.
