Number of ACA Sign-Ups Hits Record High
The enrollment period to sign up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act for most states closed on Jan. 15, with a record of 14.5 million signups — 3 million of which were new enrollees.
HealthCare.gov and state-run exchanges show a 21% increase in enrollees from the prior year.
Still, these totals aren’t yet official, as enrollment continues in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and California through Jan. 31, 2022.
The Department of Health and Human Services released a report of new survey data that shows the uninsured rate dropped 1.4% from 2021.
The American Rescue Plan allowed for changes in subsidies that helped boost enrollment numbers, but those gains may be short-lived, as they are set to expire this year on Nov. 1, 2022.
