Biden Invited to Deliver State of the Union in March
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Friday formally invited President Joe Biden to speak to a joint session of Congress on March 1.
In a brief letter, Pelosi thanked the president for his “bold vision and patriotic leadership” saying both “have guided America out of crisis and into an era of great progress.”
“Indeed, this past year has been historic: with the life-saving American Rescue Plan, once-in-a-century Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and, soon, the truly transformational Build Back Better Act!” she said.
“In that spirit, I am writing to invite you to address a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, March 1, to share your vision of the State of the Union.”
The date is later than most past State of the Union addresses and that’s a reflection of the ongoing pandemic and the restrictions imposed both by Congress and the District of Columbia over public gatherings.
The speech will be Biden’s first State of the Union address.
