Four Dead, Eight Wounded in Louisville Mass Shooting
WASHINGTON — Four people were killed and eight others were injured Monday morning after a gunman opened fire inside a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.
Police were notified of the shooting at the city’s Old National Bank at around 8:30 a.m. local time and arrived on the scene as gunshots were still being fired inside the building.
Paul Humphrey told reporters later that the suspected gunman, who has yet to be identified, was confirmed dead at the scene, though it was unclear whether he took his own life or was killed by police.
All four of the people confirmed dead so far were killed inside the bank. At least eight people, including a police officer, were taken to the hospital, though Humphrey said he had no word of their condition.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear was reported to be headed to the scene.
“Please pray for all of the families impacted and for the city of Louisville,” he said via Twitter.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI said that they were assisting with the response.
There was no immediate reaction from the White House, where President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were participating in the annual Easter Egg roll on the South Lawn.
In brief remarks, the president welcomed invitees, including many administration officials, to the White House and called Easter “a time of faith, hope, love and renewal.”
“Anything’s possible in America if we remember who we are,” the president said, repeating a favorite line.
Moments later, he was seen speaking briefly on a cellphone handed to him by either a staffer or volunteer. He then promptly turned and headed back into the White House.
