WASHINGTON — Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., filed paperwork on Friday officially making him a candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Scott, the U.S. Senate’s only Black Republican, is scheduled to formally announce his entry into the race on Monday at Charleston Southern University, his alma mater, in his hometown of North Charleston, South Carolina.

Scott, a serial entrepreneur before his full-time entry into politics, has spent the past several months touting an optimistic vision of America and drawing a sharp contrast between what he sees as the nation’s future and the partisan clashes of today.

After launching his exploratory committee, Scott even dubbed his listening tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and his home state his “Faith in America” tour.

He enters a GOP primary field that includes fellow South Carolinian and former governor Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and, of course, former President Donald Trump.

Scott reportedly has about $22 million in campaign contributions on hand, almost all of it left over from the 2022 election cycle when he raised roughly $42 million.

But that campaign kitty is expected to get a little smaller next week when he follows his campaign announcement with the launch of a nearly $6 million, multi-platform ad campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Scott’s campaign will be headed up by his longtime aide, Jennifer DeCasper.

He is also working with Targeted Victory, a digital marketing company, and FP1 Strategies, a general consulting and political advertising firm.
