CDC May Soon Update Mask Guidance
On Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised the public of potential plans to renew its mask guidance from last July.
The move by the CDC follows recent findings from health departments in states like New York and California that residents should upgrade their masks to a KN95 or KF94 because cloth masks may not be doing enough to prevent infection.
Before the outbreak of the omicron variant, previous CDC guidance precluded any specific recommendations for N95 masks because the agency wanted to encourage all mask wearing and not exclude based on particular kinds of masks.Over the next few months, the government plans to find a manufacturer to provide 140 million N95 masks a month.
