Cargill Opts Into Wind Energy Agreement in Illinois

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Global food and agriculture giant Cargill has signed a 50 MW power purchase agreement with Apex Clean Energy to power operations in Illinois.
The power will come from the 300 MW Goose Creek Wind project, which Apex is currently developing in Piatt County, Illinois.
“Beyond the traditional benefits of renewable projects — local tax revenue, job creation, lease payments, and more — Goose Creek Wind will have an oversize positive impact on its host community,” said Apex Clean Energy President and Chief Executive Mark Goodwin in a written statement.
Cargill will use the wind energy to support a number of its operations in the region, including a manufacturing plant and innovation lab.
The company said the purchase agreement will also help it reach its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in its operations by 10% by 2025.
The new wind facility is expected to begin commercial operations in 2024.
