SC Republicans Plotting to Boost Bernie to Beat Biden, Help Trump

A group of activist Republicans are planning to cross party lines and vote for Sen. Bernie Sanders in next week’s South Carolina primary in a bid to ensure that President Donald Trump faces a Socialist in the November general election.

Last year, the South Carolina Republican party cancelled its primary on the grounds that Trump was the overwhelming GOP favorite in the state and holding a contest to affirm that fact was both unnecessary and a waste of money.

The decision is still being litigated in state court, but that hasn’t stopped members of two upstate Tea Party groups and other GOP activists from urging their idle fellow Republicans to go to the polls and cast their vote … for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

They call their effort, which was announced on Facebook, the Trump 2-29 campaign.

South Carolina is an open primary state, meaning voters do not have to be registered with a particular political party in order to vote in its primary.

In its Facebook event notice, the “Trump2-29 team” assured readers that despite the cancellation of the GOP primary, “SC Republican voters still have an opportunity to support President Donald Trump and help him win in November!”

“Trump 2-29 Campaign encourages all SC Republican voters to vote for Bernie Sanders in the upcoming Democratic primary on Saturday, February 29! SC does not have registration by party, nor do we have closed primaries, so it is perfectly legal for you to participate!”

“We’d like to have a hand in helping the President by giving him an avowed socialist to face in November! Haven’t you waited a VERY long time to DO SOMETHING for President Trump??? Here ya go.”

The announcement goes on to say that “after watching the Iowa caucus fiasco and paying attention to the extremely socialist views of candidate Bernie Sanders, our team thinks he is

the ideal candidate for our President to face in November.”

The group believes that even if a small percentage of Republican voters in the state cross over and vote for Sanders, it will guarantee a defeat for Vice President Joe Biden, whom they evidently consider a much more formidable candidate for Trump to face in November.

The Trump 2-29 team claims it also has a good government reason for infiltrating the Democratic primary — “to point out the consequences of not closing the primaries in SC to just those voters who participate in each party.”

“We suggest that Democrat voters may finally be compelled to consider joining Republican voters in asking for South Carolina legislators to pass a bill closing the party primaries,” the group says. “For too long, our Republican primaries have been invaded by Democrats infusing their liberal ideology into our elections. Perhaps the Trump 2-29 Campaign will convince them that voters of each party should only vote in their respective primaries for the fairest outcome.”

So far 110 people have registered as “going” to vote for Sanders on primary Saturday, while another 131 have said they are interested.

The solicitation concludes by encouraging the reader to share the event with his or her “sphere of influence and encourage your friends, family, co-workers and political peers to show up at their polling locations on Saturday, February 29 and VOTE FOR BERNIE!”
