WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will deliver the keynote addresses at this weekend’s National Governors Association Winter Meeting in Washington.

The meeting is being held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center Saturday and Sunday.

Pompeo, a West Point graduate and former congressman who has served as the top U.S. diplomat since April 2018, is scheduled to speak at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Speaker Pelosi, the first woman Speaker of the House and highest-ranking female office holder in U.S. history, is scheduled to have a discussion with NGA Vice Chair N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo at noon on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Plenary sessions begin Saturday afternoon with NGA Chair and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan leading a discussion on his Chair’s Initiative, Infrastructure: Foundation for Success.

The two federal leaders will join the governors of 43 states, as well as hundreds of policy experts, business leaders and state staff for conversations on funding and maintaining critical infrastructure, cutting-edge initiatives to promote economic prosperity, strategies for curbing the nicotine epidemic, measures to plan for and respond to disasters, and ways to strengthen our workforce and increase broadband access.

A full schedule of sessions and speakers can be found here.

The Winter Meeting is one of the two marquee annual gatherings of the National Governors Association, a bipartisan organization representing governors from the 55 states and territories.

NGA’s Summer Meeting is scheduled for August in Portland, Maine. The annual meetings provide a forum for governors and other state leaders to discuss policy successes and best practices, to engage with experts and leaders from the private sector, and to meet with federal officeholders and Cabinet officials to reinforce relationships and focus state advocacy efforts.
