Bedingfield Not Leaving Comms Post at White House After All
WASHINGTON — Kate Bedingfield, a longtime aide to President Biden who earlier this month announced she would step down as White House communications director, has decided to stay on.
In an email to White House staff on Friday, Bedingfield said she changed her mind “after much thought, discussion and reflection.”
“I’m not done here and there is so much more good work to do with all of you,” she said.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on her new plans, after obtaining a copy of the email.
Bedingfield was expected to leave this week, but was asked to stay on an extra week in the wake of the president’s COVID-19 diagnosis.
Both the president and White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain reportedly encouraged her to stay.
Bedingfield first became Biden’s communications director in 2015, when he was vice president, and later served in a senior role on his 2020 presidential campaign.
