Many Attending DNC Convention in Milwaukee Slated to Room in Illinois

WASHINGTON – Twenty-six of the 57 delegations attending next summer’s Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee will be staying in hotels in Illinois, the head of the convention planning efforts has confirmed.

“Illinois has large hotels which lets us house delegations under one roof,” DNC Convention CEO Joe Solmonese told the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday.

He told the newspaper buses for the delegates will run from specified hotel clusters to Milwaukee throughout the event, which will be held July 13-16, 2020, at Fiserv Forum.

A list obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel confirmed that 2,926 hotel rooms will be used for delegates in Wisconsin while 2,841 hotel rooms will be used in Illinois.

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez said local organizers secured 17,000 hotel rooms for the convention; delegations, who will be housed in seven clusters of hotels, account for about a third of that total.

The convention headquarters will be at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center hotel.

Determining where the delegates will stay is the first part of a complicated planning process. It is estimated the convention planners will ultimately have to locate housing for about 50,000, including members of the media, donors and event volunteers.

According to the Journal Sentinel, downtown Milwaukee will be host to Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Illinois and Michigan are going to be in hotels in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin will host delegations from Indiana, Maine, Montana, Oregon and West Virginia.

Brookfield, Wisconsin, which is located between those two communities, will play host to Ohio, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Milwaukee airport hotels will house the delegations for Arizona, Democrats Abroad, Washington, D.C., Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina and South Dakota.

Rosemont, Illinois, immediately to the northwest of Chicago will be home to Alabama, American Samoa, California, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.

Lake County, Illinois, will host delegations from Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northern Mariana Islands, Pennsylvania and Utah.
