WASHINGTON — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a firebrand whose scorched-earth, Trump-supporting rhetoric made her a favorite of the far right wing of the Republican Party, has been ousted by the House Freedom Caucus.

The stunning vote actually occurred last Friday, ahead of the July Fourth weekend, and was originally reported by Olivia Beavers of Politico.

The results, however, did not become public until Thursday, when the purging of Greene was confirmed by Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md.

Harris told reporters on the Hill that Greene was tossed from the caucus primarily due to an incident involving fellow House GOP firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado.

In June, in a face-to-face confrontation caught on camera by C-SPAN, the former allies were seen bickering over dueling resolutions both lawmakers had put forward to impeach President Joe Biden.

At the time, Boebert had just used a procedural advantage to force a vote on her impeachment resolution ahead of Greene’s.

Though their exchange was inaudible to the camera, some within earshot professed to hear Greene say, “I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little bitch to me.”

As a parting shot, Greene accused Boebert of copying her articles of impeachment after the Georgia lawmaker asked her to sign on as a co-sponsor.

Boebert is seen shrugging her shoulders and walking away.

Her response, recounted by witnesses, was something along the lines of “Okay, Marjorie, we’re through.”

“We were never together,” Greene said to the back of Boebert’s head.

The exchange was evidently the last straw with the caucus, which was already said to be upset with Greene’s allegiance to and support of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

Greene actively boosted McCarthy’s bid for the speakership after the 2024 election, placing her at odds with Boebert and other members of the caucus, who ultimately forced 15 rounds of voting before McCarthy won the speaker’s gavel.

At one point, again captured on C-SPAN cameras, Greene even went so far as to call former President Donald Trump, handing the phone to other Republicans on the House floor to try to convince them to back McCarthy.

In early June, Greene also backed the debt ceiling deal between McCarthy and Biden, which Freedom Caucus members vehemently opposed.

Harris described the decision to remove Greene as “appropriate.”

The Well News reached out to Greene’s office and other members of the Freedom Caucus for their comments on the vote. This story will be updated as they respond.
