What’s Happening Thursday on Capitol Hill

After a full day of diplomacy at the White House, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will address a joint session of Congress on Thursday, continuing a tradition of foreign leaders and dignitaries addressing lawmakers dating back to the Marquis de Lafayette’s appearance on Capitol Hill in 1824.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will also be in attendance.

House Hearings

The House Committee on Small Business will hold a hearing examining waste and duplication at the Small Business Administration. The hearing is in room 2360 in the Rayburn House Office Building.

The Committee on House Administration will hold a hearing on Americans’ confidence in their elections and what states can do to bolster it.

Senate Hearings

The Senate Judiciary Committee is holding an “executive business” meeting today at which it will consider several judicial nominees.

The nominees are: Michael Arthur Delaney to be U.S. Circuit judge for the First Circuit, Charnelle Bjelkengren to be U.S. District judge for the Eastern District of Washington, Amanda Brailsford to be U.S. District judge for the District of Idaho, S. Kato Crews to be U.S. District judge for the District of Colorado, Marian Gaston to be U.S. District judge for the Southern District of California, Molly Silfen to be a U.S. Court of Federal Claims judge, and Eric Olshan to be U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is also meeting to consider several nominations.

These include Elizabeth Richard to be U.S. coordinator for Counterterrorism, with the rank and status of ambassador-at-large, Eric Kneedler to be U.S. ambassador to Rwanda, Kathleen FitzGibbon to be U.S. ambassador to Niger, Karen Sasahara to be U.S. ambassador to Kuwait, Elizabeth Rood to be U.S. ambassador to Turkmenistan, Martina Anna Tkadlec Strong to be U.S. ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Hugo Yue-Ho Yon to be U.S. ambassador to the Maldives, Ann Marie Yastishock to be U.S. ambassador to Papua New Guinea and to serve concurrently and without additional compensation as U.S. ambassador to the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, Robin Dunnigan to be U.S. ambassador to Georgia, and David Kostelancik to be U.S. ambassador to Albania.

The Senate Environment subcommittee will hold a hearing on the “Impacts of Plastic Production and Disposal on Environmental Justice Communities.” The meeting is in room 406 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
