MT-01: Monica Tranel (D)
Monica Tranel began her career as an attorney. A highlight in Trenel’s career is when she won a $10 million lawsuit against NorthWestern Energy.
Tranel was raised on her family’s ranch in eastern Montana, completing chores with her nine siblings. She was an Olympic rower and represented the United States, winning a World Championship Gold, and competed in two Olympic games.
If elected, she plans to create affordable housing by working with Congress to lower costs, finance housing production, and promote rental assistance programs.
Tranel will encourage federal government incentives to create climate-friendly businesses. These solar, geothermal, and wind energy businesses will generate new jobs for Montanans.
She supports federal legislation to support voter rights and reliable elections. She hopes to promote trust in the press by supporting local journalists and The Local Journalist and Sustainability Act.
Tranel supports a woman’s right to choose. She has three daughters and understands mothers’ pressure to find affordable child care and secure paid family leave.
Tranel says she will fight legislation making it harder for Native Americans to vote, focus on violence targeting Native American women, and work to eradicate racial bias in the justice system. She plans to create internet access and support small businesses in rural communities.
