SC-01: Annie Andrews (D)
Dr. Annie Andrews has been a pediatrician since 2009 and is an associate professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has worked to create the Advocacy Curriculum for the Department of Pediatrics at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.
Andrews is an active member of her community. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Charleston County Medical Society. She serves on the Charleston County Medical Society School Health Committee and the City of Charleston Mayor’s Health and Wellness Committee.
Andrews is the mother of three young children and has often worries when dropping her kids off at school in the morning in the wake of multiple mass shootings. If elected, Andrews will fight for stricter background checks, a federal secure storage law and federal funding for Hospital Based Violence Intervention programs.
Andrews supports term limits in congress. She believes they should be reduced to three terms for the House, two terms for the Senate. She will fight to ban members of congress trading stocks and becoming lobbyists. Andrews believes that women should have the right to bodily autonomy and will protect women’s choice in congress.
Andrews saw the benefits of the Affordable Care Act from within hospital walls and will fight for low-cost care and prescription drugs.
Andrews received her degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and finished her residency training at Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Today she lives in Mount Pleasant with her husband, Dr. Charlie Andrews and her three children Gracie, Henry, and Evelyn.
