WASHINGTON — Vince Evans, a top aide to Vice President Kamala Harris, is leaving the White House to become the new executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Evans, who served as the vice president’s deputy director of public engagement and intergovernmental affairs, will now work alongside Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, the chair of the 56-member caucus.

“We are thrilled to welcome Vincent Evans to the Congressional Black Caucus,” Beatty said in a written statement.

“As a leader for effective change, Vincent will help the CBC reach greater heights and make substantive advances in 2022,” she continued. “Vincent knows the importance of developing critical relationships when it comes to public engagement, along with a variety of policy and leadership skills.”

“In addition to his experience, he brings great passion for further strengthening the CBC’s top priorities moving forward. His knowledge and past work with many members and the Administration is a big asset,” Beatty said.

‪“I am deeply honored to be named the executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Evans said in a statement released through the caucus. “I started my career in Washington working for a member of the CBC, so I know firsthand the tremendous leadership and impact this caucus has in Congress and across the country.

“As we write the next chapter of the CBC story, I am excited for the opportunity to lend my experience and passion for supporting the collective vision of this storied caucus,” he added.

Reached at the White House, Sabrina Singh, Harris’ deputy press secretary, said, “Vince has been an invaluable member of our team.

“We are grateful for Vince’s service and dedication, and we look forward to working with him in his new role at the Congressional Black Caucus,” she added.

A formal announcement from the caucus is expected Wednesday.

The Florida native replaces Kyle Anderson, who left in October.

As word of Evans’ new job spread on Tuesday, his Twitter feed effectively blew up with congratulations, most of it coming from his home town and from fellow alumni of Florida A&M University.

In his new role, Evans will oversee the daily operations of one of Congress’ most influential caucuses.

He will also be tasked with coordinating the activities of its many members, including House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., and Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., the Democratic Caucus chair, and with working to advance its legislative agenda.
