Barbara Kirkmeyer is a state senator and former dairy farm owner.
The fourth-generation Coloradan has lived in southern Weld County for nearly four decades. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Colorado – Boulder in 1980 and received her teaching certificate from the state of Colorado that same year.
She co-owned a dairy farm and was a small business owner for more than 15 years before running for office to be a Weld County Commissioner in 1993. She also worked for Gov. Bill Owens as acting executive director of the Department of Local Affairs.
She became a state senator in 2020 serving on the Education, Health and Human Services and local government committees.
She’s worked primarily on economic issues and worked to protect gun rights in the area.
Kirkmeyer lives in Brighton near her two daughters and six grandsons.
