NY-01: Nancy Goroff (D)
PROFILE
About Goroff:
Nancy Goroff graduated from Harvard University with a degree in chemistry in 1990 and earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1994.
Goroff says, “We are facing a global pandemic, and we need to trust the science that will help us slow the spread, find a vaccine, and safely reopen… That’s why, in Congress I will fight for higher levels of free testing, so that we can safely get back to work. And it is why I believe we need to lower prescription drug costs and expand healthcare.”
After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, Goroff moved to Stony Brook, N.Y., in 1997 to join the faculty of Stony Brook University. There, she has served as associate provost, interim dean of the graduate school, and, prior to taking a leave of absence to run for Congress in 2020, as chairwoman of the chemistry department.
Her work at the university has included research into materials used for solar energy and management of a student entrepreneurship program.
