DNC, Democratic Party of Georgia Team Up to Boost Vote-By-Mail Efforts

WASHINGTON – The Democratic National Committee is partnering with the Democratic Party of Georgia on a massive campaign to encourage Georgians to fill out and return an application to vote by mail.

Georgia’s presidential and state primaries, originally planned for March 24, are now scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19.

Over the next several days, hundreds of volunteers will text over 1 million registered voters in the state, urging them to vote by mail rather than risk exposing themselves to the coronavirus.

“This strong investment by the DNC is exactly what it will take for Democrats to win big in Georgia,” said Scott Hogan, executive director of the Georgia Democratic Party.

“Our team is putting in the work to make sure every Georgian can make their voice heard, and innovating to reach Georgians right where they are,” Hogan said. “This program means that Georgia Democrats will reach more voters than ever before — and we know that when every eligible Georgian is able to cast their ballot, Democrats will win in November.”

Prior to the onset of the pandemic, the Democratic National Committee had invested heavily in several key states, Georgia among them, to build a strong campaign infrastructure that the party’s eventual nominee will be able to take into the fall campaign and national election.

Since the health emergency began, the party has been adapting this campaign infrastructure to function digitally.

For instance, the DNC has bought tens of millions of cell phone numbers across the country, including in Georgia, to improve voter contact.

The 2020 election is the first time in Georgia history that voters will be sent an application to vote by mail in the state, a process most are unfamiliar with.

In 2018, only 7% of voters cast their ballot by mail. However, in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, the state, along with the Democratic Party of Georgia, are encouraging all voters who are able, to vote by mail.
