SUNDAY, APRIL 14

  • Independent presidential candidate lawyer and author Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scheduled to attend a private reception and fundraising event in Dallas, Texas, 4:00p.m. CST.
  • Deadline for former President Donald Trump to file a motion to justify the surety issued by Knight Specialty Insurance Company. Trump posted the $175 million bond after a New York state judge ruled that his real estate company Trump Organization had routinely inflated the asset valuations of its corporate property holdings, allowing it to “obtain economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage and tax deductions for years” and ordered the company to pay $454 million in damages following the suit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. An appeals court later lowered the amount Trump would have to secure in a bond to avoid paying the judgement while he appeals. The move by state lawyers to seek the justification could provide more information, including potentially what collateral Trump provided.

MONDAY, APRIL 15

  • Early voting begins in Nebraska, ahead of the May 14 presidential primary election.
  • April quarterly campaign finance report filing deadline for presidential and congressional campaigns and PACs.
  • President Joe Biden scheduled to host Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala at the White House. The two leaders to “reaffirm their resolute support for Ukraine as it defends against Russia’s war of aggression” and coordinate on a range of shared priorities during the visit, including security issues, economic opportunities that benefit the American and Czech people, and shared democratic values.
  • Jury trial for former President Donald Trump, charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records as part of an alleged scheme to silence claims of extramarital sexual encounters during his 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors have said that he made a “hush money” payment of $130,000 to porn actor Stormy Daniels, who has claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006, via his attorney Michael Cohen. Cohen was then reimbursed by the Trump Organization. He pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws in 2018. Charges also cover payments to model Karen McDougal, who has also alleged an affair, and a Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child Trump had fathered. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

TUESDAY, APRIL 16

  • Michigan State House of Representatives special elections, to fill vacancies in the 13th House District and 25th House District. Elections called to fill vacancies caused by the elections of Reps. Lori Stone and Kevin Coleman to become mayors of Warren and Westland, respectively.
  • Alabama primary runoff election, with both Democratic and Republican primaries in the 2nd Congressional District on the ballot. Alabama 2nd was redrawn by a federal court last year, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state’s congressional map violated the Voting Rights Act.
  • Last day to apply for mail-in or civilian absentee ballot in Pennsylvania, ahead of the April 23 presidential primary election.
  • Democratic presidential candidate author Marianne Williamson scheduled to campaign in Oregon, speaking at Deschutes Public Library, 601 NW Wall St, Bend, 6:30 p.m. PT.

TUESDAY, MAY 14

  • Court hearing for former President Donald Trump, on charges of willful retention of national defense information, obstruction, false statements and conspiracy. Prosecutors allege that Trump retained documents from his time in the White House despite repeated requests from the National Archives and investigations from the Department of Justice. Some were handed over, but the FBI later raided Mar-a-Lago, finding more classified information. Documents retained allegedly contain information about U.S. nuclear weaponry and military capabilities and foreign nations’ nuclear capabilities. Prosecutors say Trump frequently shared the secret intelligence with visitors to his Florida hotel and lied to prosecutors and his own lawyers as they attempted to comply with demands to return the files. He has pleaded not guilty.

  • Voter and party affiliation registration deadline in Washington, D.C., ahead of the June 4 primary election.
