  • Wyoming Democratic Party presidential caucus.
  • Independent presidential candidate lawyer and author Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scheduled to host a ballot access assembly in Iowa — 500 eligible Iowa voters are required to attend and sign the assembly form to automatically place Kennedy on the state’s ballot. SUNDAY, APRIL 14

MONDAY, APRIL 15

  • Early voting begins in Nebraska, ahead of the May 14 presidential primary election.
  • April quarterly campaign finance report filing deadline for presidential and congressional campaigns and PACs.
  • President Joe Biden scheduled to host Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala at the White House. The two leaders to “reaffirm their resolute support for Ukraine as it defends against Russia’s war of aggression” and coordinate on a range of shared priorities during the visit, including security issues, economic opportunities that benefit the American and Czech people, and shared democratic values.
  • Jury trial for former President Donald Trump, charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records as part of an alleged scheme to silence claims of extramarital sexual encounters during his 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors have said that he made a “hush money” payment of $130,000 to porn actor Stormy Daniels, who has claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006, via his attorney Michael Cohen. Cohen was then reimbursed by the Trump Organization. He pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws in 2018. Charges also cover payments to model Karen McDougal, who has also alleged an affair, and a Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child Trump had fathered. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

TUESDAY, APRIL 16

  • Michigan State House of Representatives special elections, to fill vacancies in the 13th House District and 25th House District. Elections called to fill vacancies caused by the elections of Reps. Lori Stone and Kevin Coleman to become mayors of Warren and Westland, respectively.
  • Alabama primary runoff election, with both Democratic and Republican primaries in the 2nd Congressional District on the ballot. Alabama 2nd was redrawn by a federal court last year, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state’s congressional map violated the Voting Rights Act.
  • Last day to apply for mail-in or civilian absentee ballot in Pennsylvania, ahead of the April 23 presidential primary election.

THURSDAY, APRIL 18

  • 2024 Wyoming Republican Party State Convention, featuring Convention Committee meetings, Convention, and Banquet. Events held at Little America, 2800 W Lincolnway and Cheyenne Ice & Events Center, 1530 W. Lincolnway, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

  • Republican Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher scheduled to resign from Congress, leaving House Republicans with a four-seat majority. Gallagher’s seat will remain vacant until January as Wisconsin state law provides that vacancies after the second Tuesday in April are filled in the general election, rather than holding a special election.

  • Pennsylvania State House 139th District special election. Election called to fill the seat of former Rep. Joe Adams upon his resignation in February. Democrats currently control the Pennsylvania State House with 102 seats in the 203-seat chamber, while Republicans have 100.

United States (Whether and if so to what extent does a former president enjoys presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office?) Proceedings in the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia trial are on hold awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision. Trump’s charges include conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and conspiracy to obstruct a congressional proceeding for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021; however, his lawyers argue these actions fell under his official duties as president, making him immune from prosecution.
