BLM Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Solar Project in Nevada

WASHINGTON — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment for a proposed resource management plan associated with the development of a 200-MW solar farm in Washoe County, Nevada.
NextEra Energy Resources, the developer of the project, has proposed building the solar farm and 200 MW of battery storage on approximately 1,740 acres of land.
It has estimated that development of what it’s calling the Dodge Flat II Solar project, will create a number of new employment opportunities in the area, including up to 250 construction jobs.
The company also estimated that the project will provide as much as $9 million in additional tax revenue for Washoe County once it’s completed.
Subject to local and state approvals, the solar farm is scheduled to begin operations as early as June 2027.
The notice from the bureau, published in the Federal Register, began a 30-day scoping period to solicit public comments.
Comments concerning the scope of the analysis, potential alternatives, and identification of relevant information and studies should be submitted by Nov. 4, 2024, or 15 days after the last public meeting, whichever is later.
Interested parties may submit comments on issues and planning criteria related to the Dodge Flat Solar II Project by any of the following methods:
