Sanders Formally Endorses Biden for President in Livestream Event

WASHINGTON Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for president on Monday during a livestream conversation between the former rivals for the Democratic nomination.

“We’ve got to make Trump a one-term president and we need you in the White House,” Sanders said.

The Senator, who exited the presidential contest last week, then went on to say, “I’m asking every Democrat, I’m asking every independent, I’m asking a lot of Republicans to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy, which I endorse.”

The two talked about a number of issues during the event, including the minimum wage, and oversight of the coronavirus emergency loan program, and Sanders conceded that “it’s no great secret Joe, that you and I have our difference, and we are not going to paper them over.”

But the Senator also said his staff and Biden’s staff have been meeting in recent days in the hope of establishing a number of task forces to find common ground on issues ranging from the economy to immigration reform to health care.

“I hope that these task forces will come together, utilizing the best minds and people in your campaign and in my campaign, to work out real solutions to these very, very important problems,” Sanders said.
