WASHINGTON — Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has decided to leave the Democratic Party behind and engage a “broken two-party system” as a political independent, according to her publisher, Hachette Book Group.

At least that’s the pre-publication buzz surrounding “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” which was penned by Jean-Pierre and is set for release on Oct. 21.

Jean-Pierre, of course, initially worked in former President Obama’s administration and, in 2020, joined former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign as a senior advisor.

After Biden’s victory, she joined the new administration, first as Vice President Kamala Harris’ chief of staff, and then, two years later, became the first Black and the first openly LGBTQ person to serve as White House press secretary.

The first publicity material for the book promises Jean-Pierre will take readers through “the  three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.”

The publisher, Hachette’s Legacy Lit imprint, touts the story she has to tell as “a groundbreaking, revelatory assessment of America’s broken two-party system.”

“In a country obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system,” it says, Jean-Pierre, “shares why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as independents.

“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an independent lightly,” it adds.

The book is said to urge all Americans, regardless of their political persuasion, to “vote their values and maintain individuality” even within party lines.

In the end, the publisher described her book as a “hard-hitting yet hopeful critique” while defining what it means “to be part of the growing percentage of our fractured electorate that is independent, why it can be worthwhile to carve a political space more loyal to personal beliefs than a party affiliation, and what questions you need to ask yourself to determine where you fit politically.”

In short, Hachette says, Jean-Pierre has chosen to use her high-profile and first book to urge Americans to “think outside of the blue-and-red box as we consider what’s next to save our democracy.”
