MUFON Says It’s Ready and Willing to Help Intel Committees Unravel UFO Mystery

CINCINNATI — The world’s oldest organization dedicated exclusively to the scientific study of UFOs and other unknown aerial phenomena says it’s ready and willing to help intelligence committees on Capitol Hill get to the bottom of the recent rash of strange incidents in the skies above North America.
MUFON, also known as the Mutual UFO Network, has been collecting data on unknown aerial phenomena since 1969 and has over 6,000 members globally.
In addition, according to Ron James, the spokesman for the organization, MUFON boasts 650 trained and equipped field investigators and has an extensive database on UFO encounters.
In an email to The Well News sent shortly after the start of an all-senators classified briefing on the unknown objects U.S. forces have shot down in recent days, James said MUFON does not think the objects in question “are extraterrestrial in nature,” though “it does appear that there is an increased effort to find out exactly what they are in certain cases.”
In the past 10 days, there have been four UFO sightings that have heightened public awareness of national security.
The first, of course, was the suspected Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by a U.S. warplane on Feb. 4.
Three more unidentified devices have been shot down since then: a car-sized object over the Alaskan coast on Feb. 10, a cylindrical object in Yukon, Canada, on Feb. 11, and an octagonal structure over Lake Huron on Feb. 12.
After each incident, Pentagon officials said the objects posed no security threats but have not disclosed their origins or purpose.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., emerged from the classified meeting and said, “We are learning more and more about these four objects by the hour.”
According to POLITICO, speakers at the briefing included Melissa Dalton, an assistant secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims II, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Schumer said, “U.S. and Canadian forces are working to recover the objects that were shot down. In the briefing, the military and intelligence people outlined their approach to each of the four objects.
“What I can say after our briefing is that our defense and intelligence agencies are focused like a laser on gathering every piece of information about these objects to figure out exactly what’s happening,” he continued.
“What we saw over the weekend is that if they see anything that is a threat to America, or the American people, they will take appropriate action. And they made clear that Americans are in no physical harm on the ground from any of these objects.”
Schumer went on to assure the American people that “the military and intelligence agencies are working around the clock to come up with a more comprehensive picture of what is happening, and as they recover more evidence the picture will be filled in, in a careful, thoughtful but decisive way.”
“We still have questions about many issues, but they are making every real effort, and the American people should have a good deal of confidence in our military and intelligence to handle our security,” he said.
Asked what MUFON members think is going on, James said many believe the government has increased the “sensitivity of certain sensors” since the suspected Chinese balloon incident and as a result are simply “picking up more of these types of objects.”
He went on to say that “MUFON believes that there is a comprehensive tracking program related to possible nonhuman operated craft and that we probably have a policy not to shoot them down.”
In regard to the current situation, MUFON suggested the secrecy with which the ongoing investigation is being carried out may actually be slowing it.
“With limited information being gathered or disseminated,” the release said, “those who’ve followed and have an interest in unknown phenomena in the sky simply don’t know how to offer their help or to whom.”
In the meantime, James said, “MUFON is … compiling a report for the intelligence committees outlining similar sightings in our database.”
