About Lori:
I am Lori Trahan, your Democratic Nominee for Congress in MA-03. I am honored to have the opportunity to honor the legacy of Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. Her dedication to the people of our community, our veterans, and protecting women in the military, will leave a lasting legacy to not only the Third District but also this nation.
I grew up in a middle-class home in Lowell, Massachusetts. My Dad, Tony Loureiro, was a union organizer and ironworker for Local 7 until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1994. My Mom, Linda, raised me and my three sisters while working various part-time jobs. My parents built a stable middle-class life. I attended Lowell public schools and, like everyone else in my neighborhood, started working as soon as I could. I delivered the Lowell Sun at age 11, answered phones at Caddell and Byers Insurance Agency, and served breakfast at the Owl Diner for five years.
Now, I’m the proud mom of two precious little girls, ages eight and four, and three amazing and respectful stepsons, ages 24, 21, and 19. Every single one of my kids instills in me the greatest sense of pride and resilience. I aspire to leave them a world where they feel safe going to school, love whomever they choose, drink clean water, feel valued, and pursue and achieve their dreams. My husband David, a homebuilder, is an unbelievable husband who has encouraged and supported me in every aspect of life and together we’re raising our family in the Third District.
I decided to run for Congress because I saw a glaring gap in some of the conversations our nation was having in the halls of Congress. After long talks with my family — and with their full loving support — I threw my hat in the ring to represent the district I’ve called home for over 40 years. After a long fought primary and a recount, I officially became your nominee for Congress on September 17th. I had the pleasure of competing against an eclectic group of diverse candidates that brought important conversations to light, made be a better person, and inspired many of you to come out and vote.
One thing we all shared in common was a core belief that now more than ever, we need more voices in Washington who are going to stand up to Donald Trump.
The election in November has already proven to be one of the most consequential elections in modern political history. On the ballot, across this nation, are values that I and so many other Democrats plan on bringing to the halls of Congress. From protecting the right to vote to women’s reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, gun reform, fair labor practices, and unions rights, all of these are on the ballot on November 6th. We need people in Congress who are going to fight to ensure every family gets a shot at realizing their dreams, and I plan to do just that.
Our place in history starts now and I am aware of my place in it. We need more women in Washington. When women have a seat at the table our conversations are more substantive, far-reaching, and bring in an important understanding to some of the district’s most important challenges. I’m never going to stop fighting for what is right.
We have the chance to expand the circle of opportunity for every member of our district. When we work together to tackle our problems, we create solutions. Elections have consequences and in November we have the opportunity to vote for the right kind of change. A change that is inclusive and makes our community members feel valued and important. I am so grateful to be your nominee and I am honored to help bring that right kind of change to Washington.
