Road Closures Mounting as Army’s 250th Birthday Parade Approaches

WASHINGTON — Road closures are beginning to mount in and around downtown D.C. as preparations continue for Saturday’s big 250th birthday parade for the U.S. Army.

Constitution Avenue has been mostly closed since Wednesday to accommodate parade preparations, following a similar closure mid-Tuesday on 15th Street and Constitution and Independence avenues.

In addition, a number of parking restrictions have already gone into effect in the area around the parade route, and anyone who parks in the restricted zone will be ticketed and could be towed, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said.

A number of additional road closures will go into effect between Thursday and Saturday, with some of the closures likely to extend into early Monday morning.

The parade itself will march on Constitution Avenue NW between 15th Street and 23rd Street. 

Given the challenges of getting around the city, officials are encouraging anyone headed to the parade route to take the Metro.

Route 27/Washington Blvd: Right lane closed in both directions beginning 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11. All lanes closed in both directions between US-50 and Pentagon North Parking beginning Friday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. through Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 p.m.
