Delgado Bill Aimed at Aiding Small Businesses Passes House
Legislation intended to make it easier for small businesses to comply with federal regulations passed the House with bipartisan support last week.
Introduced by freshman Representative Antonio Delgado, D-N.Y., the bill requires the Small Business Administration to create a centralized website providing compliance guidelines for federal regulations impacting small businesses.
Under a separate law, the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act, federal agencies are required to publish a “small entity compliance guide” for certain regulations.
Delgado’s legislation would make these guides more accessible by creating a centralized “one-stop shop” online for small business owners who often lack the resources to hire staff to focus on compliance issues.
The bill would also list contact information for the appropriate agency staff who could provide regulatory assistance to small businesses.
Delgado introduced this legislation with fellow freshman Representative John Joyce, R-Penn., on April 11, and the bill passed through the House Small Business Committee with bipartisan support on May 1.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the economy … and we ought to be making it easier, not harder, for folks to start a business and access resources from the federal government.”. Delgado said.
“As a small business owner, I am confident that this measure will free job creators up to grow and expand by streamlining the regulatory burdens that they face each day,” Joyce said.
