Biden-Harris Transition Announces White House Digital Strategy Team
WASHINGTON — Incoming members of the White House Office of Digital Strategy were announced Monday in a press release from the Biden-Harris transition team.
In the release, the Biden-Harris transition described the incoming members as “diverse, accomplished, and talented individuals” that will work to extend president-elect Joe Biden’s outreach beyond his social media platforms in addition to engaging with constituents through “traditional measures.”
“Communicating transparently and honestly with the American people is one of the most important responsibilities of a president,” Biden said in a statement. “This team of diverse experts has a wide range of experience in digital strategy and will help connect the White House to the American people in new and innovative ways. They bring a shared commitment to building our nation back better, and I am thrilled to have them on our team.”
Rob Flaherty, current digital director for the transition team, will serve as director of digital strategy upon Biden’s inauguration, according to the release. Flaherty formerly served as digital director for former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s presidential campaign, director of digital media at the Democratic National Convention and deputy digital communications director for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Cameron Trimble, current deputy digital director for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, will serve as Biden’s director of digital engagement. Trimble formerly served as communications director for Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, and as senior public affairs specialist for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture prior to working for the Biden-Harris campaign team.
“Digital outreach will be a key pillar of the Biden-Harris Administration’s engagement with the public,” incoming White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said in a statement. “By bringing a talented team of digital strategists to the White House, we will ensure a robust dialogue with the American people, wherever they are.”
Jaime Lopez, social media and audience development director for the Biden-Harris transition, will be promoted to director of platforms for the Biden White House. Prior to joining Biden’s campaign and transition teams, Lopez worked for various Democratic campaigns and non-profits including as Florida mobilization director for Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign, social media manager for the Cancer Research Institute, social media associate at the ACLU and Florida deputy digital director for Hillary for America.
Carahna Magwood, design director for the Biden-Harris transition, will be promoted to creative director for the Biden White House. Prior to her work with the Biden-Harris campaign and transition, Magwood served as lead graphic designer for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and as founding principal of Lemonaid.
Brendan Cohen, former deputy director of editorial for the Biden-Harris Campaign, will serve as platform manager of the digital strategy team. Previously, Cohen served as a senior platform strategist for Biden’s primary campaign, digital director for Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers’ gubernatorial campaign, and digital director for Dan Kohl’s Massachusetts congressional campaign in addition to working at New Blue Interactive.
“Digital communities and online spaces have taken on even more importance in the wake of the pandemic,” Harris said in a statement. “We’re building a team to speak to the lived experiences of all Americans. With much of our lives online, it is critical for this administration’s digital efforts to be inclusive and extensive.”
