Survey Shows Healthiest States for Dogs
A recent survey led by researchers from Embark, a dog DNA company, examined where in the United States dogs are the healthiest.
The survey found that the top three states with the highest overall score for dog health were Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania. The states with the lowest health rankings were Rhode Island and Georgia.
To conduct the survey, researchers conducted a poll of over 190,000 Embark customers, and 1,977 additional pet owners in all 50 states to see where pet owners are going the extra mile to care for their dogs.
Questions were asked that pertain to overall dog health, how pet owners integrate their dogs into their families, and dog behavior and training. Other categories included flea or tick prevention, dental hygiene, annual vet visits, weekly exercise, and whether the individual has pet insurance. Grooming frequency also was a factor.
The highest rates of canine infections were identified in North Dakota, Utah and Nevada. Participants were even asked whether they celebrated their dog’s birthday every year, with Connecticut and Minnesota holding the most dog birthdays.
