Reproductive Freedom for All Act Aims to Undo Dobbs

Sens. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, are striving to undo the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and create a federal law that preserves the right to reproductive freedom.
The senators introduced the legislation on Aug. 1, known as the Reproductive Freedom for All Act.
“In light of the Dobbs ruling that the legality of abortion services is now a matter of legislation action, it is appropriate to enact the essential holdings,” write the senators in the bill text.
The bill would prohibit state regulations that impose an undue burden on a woman’s access to pre-viability abortions, while allowing states to enact reasonable restrictions on post-viability abortions, provided that states cannot ban abortions that are necessary to protect the life or health of the mother. It would also protect access to contraceptives and preserve conscience protections.
