NIH Looks to Educate Researchers on AI and Machine Learning
The National Institutes of Health has entered into a collaboration with Google and the University of Arkansas as of Aug. 1, to help educate biomedical researchers on the ways that artificial intelligence and machine learning can help enhance and streamline health data analysis for medical and scientific imaging.
A cloud-based learning module for biomedical research will be built by a team of researchers that will be led by Justin Zhan, a professor of data science at the University of Arkansas, and NIH and Google software engineers.
“The big data revolution transforms biology and medicine into data-driven sciences, [and] traditional education is responding slowly. Addressing this shortcoming is part of what we’re trying to do,” said Zhan in a written statement. The National Institute of General Medical Sciences Institutional Development Award Program awarded $140,135 in funding towards the project.
