Health Warning Issued for Braga Fresh Broccoli Florets

SOLEDAD, Calif. — A voluntary recall of certain broccoli florets has been issued as a precaution due to the possibility of a shipment of the vegetables being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall was issued by Braga Fresh for its washed and ready-to-eat 12 oz. Marketside Broccoli Florets, a product sold by Walmart in 20 states.
The product has a best if used by date of Dec. 10, 2024, and is no longer in stores, but officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is publicizing the recall, said some consumers may have frozen the item for later use.
Anyone who might still have this product in their freezers should not consume it and are advised to discard it.
The voluntary recall was initiated after contamination was discovered during random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services from a Texas store location where one of multiple samples yielded a positive test result.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The specific product involved is 12 oz. bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores identified by having a UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag, with best if used by date of Dec. 10, 2024, and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on the front of bag.
The states in which the florets were distributed are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The voluntary advisory does not apply to any other Marketside or Braga Fresh produce products.
