KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C — First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is isolating after a positive test for COVID-19 Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for her office said Tuesday.

“After testing negative for COVID-19 on Monday during her regular testing cadence, the first lady began to develop cold-like symptoms late in the evening,” said Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communications director, in a written statement. “She tested negative again on a rapid antigen test, but a PCR test came back positive.”

Biden, 71, is double-vaccinated and double-boosted and will isolate at the private residence in South Carolina where she was staying until she tests negative twice.

She has been prescribed Paxlovid and will isolate for at least five days.

President Joe Biden and the first lady were scheduled to fly back to Washington together this morning, and resume their vacation in Delaware after the president signs the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 into law this afternoon.

Dr. Biden’s case of the virus comes just weeks after her husband caught COVID-19, then was in and out of isolation after a Paxlovid rebound.

The president tested negative on an antigen test Tuesday morning, but will mask indoors and around others for 10 days, the White House said.
