The Well News Honored With Prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Award

WASHINGTON — The Well News on Monday took top honors in the online features category of the Society of Professional Journalists’ prestigious Sigma Delta Chi awards for excellence in journalism.
The publication was honored as tops in “Arts, Entertainment and Fashion Journalism” for Dan McCue’s feature “Ghosts of the Delta Still Walk the Halls of Chess Records,” a story reported and written during last year’s Democratic National Convention.
The judges said: “McCue’s writing is both poetic and insightful. The amount of history interwoven with personal anecdotes is lovely.”
Dating back to 1932, the awards originally honored six individuals for contributions to journalism.
The current program began in 1939, when the Society granted the first Distinguished Service Awards. The honors later became the Sigma Delta Chi Awards.
Judges chose the winners from entries in categories covering print, radio, television and online. The awards recognize outstanding work published or broadcast in 2024.
