Dan Mahaffee
Mahaffee manages CSPC’s policy programs and serves as corporate secretary to the 35-member Board of Trustees. Mahaffee is responsible for the center’s research and policy prioritization, and develops op-eds, essays and presentations regarding CSPC’s policy programs — including cybersecurity, technology policy, international relations, government procurement and political reform initiatives. In addition to his responsibilities at CSPC, he is a director at the Chicago, Illinois-area Dr. Scholl Foundation.
He holds an M.A. in Security Studies with a concentration in U.S. Defense Policy from Georgetown University, and a B.A. in Government, with minors in History and Mandarin Chinese, also from Georgetown. He also studied at the East China Normal University in Shanghai, China, where he conducted advanced language studies and research on U.S.-China-Taiwan trilateral relations. As a 2008-2009 CSPC Presidential Fellow, he examined and compared the ratification efforts of the Versailles and North Atlantic Treaties. Mahaffee previously served as an intern for Representative Mark Kirk (IL-10).
His work has been published in POLITICO, the Real Clear family of websites, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and the CSPC Fellows Review. He has also contributed to articles in The Wall Street Journal, on the Bloomberg and Xinhua Wire Services, and appeared on several international news channels.
