Rep. Angie Craig Attacked in Apartment Elevator

WASHINGTON — Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., was attacked in an elevator in her D.C. apartment building on Thursday, her chief of staff said in a statement.

According to the brief statement posted to Twitter by Chief of Staff Nick Coe, Craig, 50 and now in her third term, was assaulted in an elevator in her apartment building at about 7:15 a.m.

Craig defended herself, reportedly by throwing hot coffee at her attacker, and suffered some bruising but “is otherwise physically okay,” according to the statement.

The assailant fled the scene as the congresswoman called 911.

“There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated,” Coe said. “Rep. Craig is grateful to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response and asks for privacy at this time.”
