WASHINGTON – The House New Democrat Coalition is out with its assessment of the 2020 election and they believe voters clearly endorsed pragmatic Democrats and their espoused approach to controlling the pandemic, making a full economic recovery and moving the country forward.

“Voters all across America have made one thing loud and clear: we need leaders who will put politics aside and build our economy back better,” said New Democrat Coalition Chair Rep. Kilmer of Washington State.

“Voters across the country signaled they want leaders who will push forward science-based approaches to combat the pandemic and work to help communities, small businesses, and families facing economic hardship,” he continued.

“And they want leaders who will fight to strengthen our health care, take action to combat climate change, work to rectify the injustices facing communities of color, create more economic opportunity for more people in more places, and help bring our communities together,” he said.

Rep. Ami Bera of California, chair of the New Dem Action Fund, the coalition’s political arm, said the stakes in the just concluded election could not have been clearer.

“Voters have rejected the vision of the Republican party – one of fear, division, and where only the wealthy and well connected get ahead – in favor of an America where everyone has the opportunity to earn a good life.

“NewDems built the Democratic majority in the House two years ago by winning 32 of the 40 net seats that flipped blue. And now it’s clear that NewDems have defended that majority by protecting many of our vulnerable members in swing and red districts. Combined with the results of the presidential election, one thing is clear: voters want centrist Democrats at the helm,” he added.

Although votes are still being counted in key Congressional districts across the country, the NewDem Action Fund successfully defended at least 22 vulnerable “Frontline” incumbents during this highly competitive election cycle and supported another five winning candidates.
