WASHINGTON — Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was discharged from the hospital on Monday after suffering a concussion from a fall last week and will continue being treated at an inpatient rehabilitation facility, his office said.

“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well,” spokesman David Popp said in a written statement. “At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home.”

As previously reported by The Well News, McConnell, 81, fell after an event for the Senate Leadership Fund — a Republican super PAC aligned with McConnell and GOP leadership — at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington.

Popp’s statement notes that “over the course of treatment this weekend, the leader’s medical team discovered that he also suffered a minor rib fracture on Wednesday, for which he is also being treated.”

The statement does not say when McConnell will return to the Senate.

“The leader and Secretary [Elaine] Chao are deeply thankful for the skilled medical care, prayers and kindness they have received,” Popp said.

In 2019, McConnell tripped and fell at his home and underwent surgery to repair a shoulder fracture.
