SARASOTA, Fla.— Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., remains hospitalized Friday morning, two days after being seriously injured in a tree-cutting accident on his property.

According to a series of tweets from his office, Steube, an athletic man who once hit a home run during the annual Congressional Baseball Game, fell about 25 feet from a tall ladder.

Steube’s office described the congressman, who has served Florida’s 17th Congressional District since 2019, as being in good spirits despite the fact he had suffered “several serious injuries.”

The office went on to say that while Steube spent Wednesday night in the intensive care unit of his local hospital, his injuries are “not life-threatening at this time.”

Steube reportedly fell after a large branch he was cutting struck the ladder he was standing on.

A local delivery driver, Darrell Woodie witnessed the congressman’s fall and immediately called 911 for help.

The Sarasota County Emergency Services department transported Steube to the hospital.

“We give all glory to God for his healing. We will have more to say as details become clear about the timeline for his recovery,” Steube’s office said after he was moved out of the ICU Thursday afternoon.

First elected in 2018, Steube served as an Army captain before he was elected to the state legislature and then to Congress. A member of the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees in the 117th Congress, he was named last week to the Ways and Means Committee.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he talked to his fellow Republican and his wife on Friday morning.

“Our entire conference prays for a swift recovery,” McCarthy tweeted. “I informed him he will serve on the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and he is eager to get back to work!”
