Justices Reject Trump Appeal Over Jan. 6 Panel Doc Request
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to review former President Donald Trump’s challenge to the release of some of his White House documents to a House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the nation’s Capitol.
The justices earlier had rejected Trump’s request for an emergency injunction to block four tranches of documents.
As is their custom, the justices did not explain the rationale behind their rejection of a request for review filed by Trump lawyer Jesse Binall.
Binall had asked the justices to decide whether the Jan. 6 committee’s records request for documents violated the Constitution or laws of the United States.
Trump is seeking to shield about 800 pages of his White House documents from review.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit had previously rejected his privilege claims and President Joe Biden has refused to assert privilege over the documents, saying they could be released to the committee.
