Vice President Kamala Harris will visit California’s Bay Area on Wednesday to campaign with Gov. Gavin Newsom, who faces possible removal from office in a Sept. 14 recall election.

Symone Sanders, Harris’ chief spokesperson, tweeted Saturday that the vice president will be in the Bay Area later this week, and later confirmed the vice president is expected to appear with the embattled Democratic governor.

Harris had been set to campaign with Newsom in late August on her way back to the U.S. after a week of events and appearances in Singapore and Vietnam.

She postponed the California stop and returned to Washington due to events then unfolding in Afghanistan.

In recent days Newsom has repeatedly said President Joe Biden will also travel to California on his behalf, but so far, no such trip has been announced by the White House.

The president already has a fairly full travel schedule this week with stops in New York and New Jersey to survey Hurricane Ida storm damage Tuesday, and three stops in New York, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon on Saturday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters at her Aug. 25 news briefing that the president still planned to campaign for Newsom, but has offered no other details.

“I don’t have a date for you at this point in time, but that is still, certainly, his plan,” she said at the time.
