New Dems Unveil Second Slate of Policy Task Forces

WASHINGTON — The New Democrat Coalition on Tuesday unveiled three new policy task forces which will focus on rural reinvestment, future of work and capitalism, and trade.

The second slate of coalition task forces for the 117th Congress join previously announced panels focusing on climate change, health care, immigration and infrastructure.

Coalition Chair Suzan DelBene, of Washington, and Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters, of California, said the new task forces will develop and advance solutions that help harness the opportunities for workers and the economy in the 21st century, strengthen rural communities, and ensure the U.S. is setting the rules for the global economy.

The coalition also announced the co-chairs for each of the new task forces.

Reps. Cindy Axne, of Iowa, and Cheri Bustos, of Illinois, will co-chair the Rural Reinvestment Task Force; Reps. Haley Stevens, of Michigan, and Mikie Sherrill, of New Jersey, will co-chair the Future of Work and Capitalism Task Force; and Reps. Ron Kind, of Wisconsin, and Lizzie Fletcher, of Texas, will co-chair the Trade Task Force.

Delbene and Peters said the members chosen to co-chair these NDC task forces are issue-area experts who serve on relevant committees of jurisdiction and can help advance the coalition’s priorities through the House.

“New Dems are focused on getting things done and delivering tangible change for Americans so that they can succeed in the 21st century,” DelBene said. “The NDC’s task forces will continue to help deliver by developing policy ideas that promote equitable growth and opportunities for all Americans.

“As we emerge from the COVID-induced economic catastrophe, Congress must deliver results that bolster America’s workforce, trade, and rural communities so we can build back better,” Peters said. “The NDC task forces we announced today will uncover vital solutions to tackle the challenges ahead.”

The coalition said full membership for the second slate of task forces will be announced in the coming weeks.

It said the new slate of task forces will build on the progress of the coalition’s first slate of task forces and priorities from its 100 Day Agenda to create jobs, modernize our nation’s systems and institutions, close opportunity gaps, and provide Americans with the skills to succeed.
