$1.5M in Grants Available to Empower Women Workers on Labor Rights
The Labor Department has made $1.5 million available to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to develop partnerships with community-based organizations and other non-profits seeking to empower women workers by strengthening their understanding of their labor rights and benefits. The fund will support up to six grants.
According to the announcement, the Fostering Access, Rights and Equity grants, created for low-income women workers, are overseen and distributed by the Labor Department’s Women’s Bureau and the Employment and Training Administration. The deadline for applicants is July 15.
At least one of the following services must be provided by the outreach program to qualify for funding: provide outreach to underserved and “marginalized women,” disseminate a variety of educational materials, assist women workers in their benefits calculations and connecting them to resources to help them exercise these rights – i.e., legal assistance, and increasing awareness of women’s rights to benefits and assistance available to them.
