Biden Taps Sandra Bruce to Be Inspector General for Ed Dept.
WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden announced seven nominations on Friday, including his nominee for Inspector General of the Department of Education, Sandra Bruce.
If confirmed, Bruce will be tasked with auditing and investigating DOE programs to combat fraud, waste and abuse.
Bruce has over 30 years of experience directing, overseeing and conducting investigations and audit-related programs. Currently, Bruce is serving as inspector general of the DOE Office of Inspector General.
On Friday, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona issued a statement commending President Biden’s nomination of Bruce.
“Sandra has dedicated her life to public service, bringing decades of experience at various federal agencies,” Cardona said. “Her expertise and integrity have made her an invaluable leader here at the Department. I look forward to her swift confirmation, continued service and strong oversight of agency resources.”
Bruce started her public service career as an auditor in 1986 with the U.S. Army Audit Agency, where she rose to an audit supervisor and associate program director. In 1997, Bruce was a leader with the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, directing its Computer Assisted Audit Techniques unit and Law Enforcement and Postal Service Security unit.
From 2006 to 2009, Bruce was the assistant inspector general for Inspections at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. She held the same position at the U.S. Department of Energy before joining the Office of Inspector General.
Bruce joined the Office of Inspector General in 2014 as deputy inspector general and has been leading the office since 2018.
