Supreme Court Rejects GOP Bid to Upend Biden Win in Pennsylvania
The Supreme Court on Tuesday evening rejected a last-gasp bid by the GOP to reverse Pennsylvania’s certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the electoral battleground.
As is their custom, the justices did not explain the rationale for their decision. Instead, they offered just a single sentence: “The application for injunctive relief presented to Justice Alito and by him referred to the Court is denied.”
Republican lawmakers in the state had sought to call into question the the certification process in Pennsylvania, citing numerous alleged irregularities. But lower courts had consistently ruled against Trump and his allies in state courts.
In the meantime, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf certified Biden’s victory and the state’s 20 electors are to meet on Dec. 14 to cast their votes for Biden.
Biden won 306 electoral votes, so even if Pennsylvania’s results had been in doubt, he still would have more than the 270 electoral votes needed to become president.
