About Richter:
David Richter is the former chief executive officer of Hill International, a New York Stock Exchange-listed global professional services firm that provides construction management services on building and infrastructure projects worldwide.
Richter grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in South Jersey. He attended public schools in Willingboro and Cherry Hill and graduated from Cherry Hill High School East.
He went on to earn five degrees—his B.S. in management, his B.S.E. in civil engineering and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, his M.S. in major program management from the University of Oxford, and his M.P.A. from Harvard University. While at Harvard, David served as executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, the official publication of The Federalist Society.
He began his career practicing law at the New York City office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. In 1995 he returned to South Jersey to join Hill International. Over his 22-year career at Hill, Richter rose from general counsel to chief executive officer.
The majority of Hill’s business has been serving the public sector—managing the construction of infrastructure and other public works projects. And it has helped when natural or man-made events necessitated large-scale recovery efforts, such as reconstructing the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks on September 11th.
Richter has also volunteered his time in support of various organizations. He is a board member of Princeton Day School and a former board member of the Southern New Jersey Development Council, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, and the Construction Management Association of America. He is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
Richter has been named to “40 Under 40” lists of outstanding young professionals by Business News/New Jersey magazine (2002), the Philadelphia Business Journal (2005) and Building Design + Construction magazine (2006). From 2003 to 2004, he served as a David Rockefeller Fellow. In 2007, he received the Global Excellence Award from the Society of Indo-American Engineers and Architects of New York. In 2012, he was named a Fellow of the Construction Management Association of America. In 2014, he was named by SNJ Business People magazine as one of South Jersey’s Executives of the Year. In 2016, he was named a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building. David received two awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers—the 2017 Excellence in Management Award from ASCE’s New Jersey Section and the 2018 Construction Management Award “for his service to the global construction management industry and his executive leadership in building Hill International into the largest independent construction management firm in the world.”
He and his wife Michelle have been married for 20 years and have four teenage daughters.
