MI Senate: John James (R)

About James:

John James is running for U.S Senate to represent the state of Michigan.

At the age of 17, James volunteered to serve his country in the military. After graduating from West Point in 2004, the candidate became a Ranger-qualified aviation officer. James went on to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom where he earned a Combat Action Badge (CAB) and two Air Medals while logging 753.7 flight hours in theater leading two Apache platoons.

Upon his return home to Michigan in 2008 after being honorably discharged, the Great Recession deeply impacted the state, fueling his determination to help his fellow Michiganders.

He took over his family’s business, James Group International, and grew the company’s revenue of $35 million into $137 million. Thanks to his leadership, James Group International created 100 jobs in Michigan and across the country. In addition to being president of his family’s company, James has served on Gov. Rick Snyder’s mobility council and Veterans Trust Committee, and Detroit Mayor Duggan’s Workforce Development Council.

John James has not held formal public office in his career, however, he previously ran for the U.S Senate office in 2018, losing to then-incumbent Debbie Stabenow (D). James has been endorsed by President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been virtually campaigning for James’ candidacy.

James lives in Farmington Hills, Mich., with his wife and three sons.
