Rep. Lizzie Fletcher Receives Multiple US Chamber Honors for Leadership, Enterprise

WASHINGTON – Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, D-Texas, received multiple honors from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce last week for her efforts on behalf of small business and her constituents. 

Fletcher, who was elected to represent Texas’ 7th Congressional District in 2018, serves on the House Transportation & Infrastructure and Science, Space, and Technology committees.

In addition to receiving the chamber’s Spirit of Enterprise Award in recognition for her support of business-friendly initiatives during the first session of the 116th Congress, Fletcher received the Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award. The Lincoln Award honors 20 members in the House and 10 Senators who demonstrate bipartisan leadership that supports the U.S.’s free enterprise system.

The Chamber of Commerce placed Fletcher in the top 10 percentile in its leadership score index. Additionally, Fletcher tied for 12th for legislative score and tied for the sixth highest leadership score overall among House Democrats.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for working with both my Republican and Democratic colleagues to create common-sense solutions that support our economy,” Fletcher said in Houston Style Magazine. “As Houstonians, we know the value of working together, supporting local business, and building consensus. It has been important for me to bring this spirit to Congress and ensure that the policies we enact help support businesses in our community and across the country.”

Fletcher authored an amendment to the INVEST in America Act, also known as H.R. 2, that encourages the use of alternative use vehicles in a national program by expanding natural gas and propane refueling. This measure was backed by bipartisan support.

In June, Fletcher announced over $2.4 million in federal funds to be allocated for a Houston-area synagogue. The funds, administered through FEMA, will be used for repairs to Congregation Beth Yeshurun that was damaged by Hurricane Harvey.

“After Hurricane Harvey, Houstonians came together in an outpouring of compassion to help one another rebuild,” Fletcher said in a statement. “I’m very pleased to announce this federal funding for Congregation Beth Yeshurun to support them as they continue their recovery efforts.”
